Nocturne / Arch 12, under the viaduct

Four hundred people, eleven feet from the band.

Four nights a week, doors at seven, curfew at eleven because of the flats above. No barrier, no pit, no photographers in the first three songs — the room is too small to be precious about any of it.

Every band you have ever loved played a room this size first. Four hundred people is small enough that the drummer can hear the back row, and just big enough to pay everyone in it. Rooms like this one are closing at the rate of two a month. This one is not, yet.

Every poster here is set in the page rather than exported as artwork, so a new date is one line of data and the act’s name is something a search engine can read. Each one drifts at its own rate as you pass it — opposite directions, never the same speed twice — which is what separates a grid into layers.

Tonight

Doors seven, curfew eleven, and we mean it

There are flats above the arch. The curfew is a condition of the licence rather than a preference, so the running order is published and it is kept.

Four hundred standing, a 24-channel desk, a green room with a window, and a load-in off the street rather than down a staircase. We do not take a cut of merch.
